Scruffy’s Happily Ever After
A WoofStock Adoption Tale
Scruffy, a scrappy little white terrier with soulful eyes and a heart full of hope, started his journey in the streets of Kenansville. Alone and wandering, he was eventually brought to the Duplin County Animal Shelter, uncertain of what would come next. That all changed the day the rescue group Saving Dogs for Betty’s Sake laid eyes on him. They saw past his rough beginnings and knew this little guy deserved a second chance.
For four months, Scruffy lived with the rescue: loved, safe, and waiting patiently for his forever family. Then came WoofStock, the mega pet adoption event hosted at Coastal Kia, where Scruffy’s life was about to take a joyful turn.
At WoofStock, Scruffy charmed everyone he met. With his perky ears and wagging tail, he drew a crowd, but it was two young women who truly saw him. They asked the most important question of all: “Is he good with cats?” That simple question led to a beautiful beginning.
Later that night, Scruffy met his new feline sibling, and it was love at first sniff. The two became fast friends, curling up together as if they’d known each other forever.
From roaming the streets to finding his perfect match, Scruffy’s story reminds us that love often comes when we least expect it. Thanks to the compassionate team at Saving Dogs for Betty’s Sake and the incredible event that is WoofStock, Scruffy now has what every rescue pup dreams of: a forever home, a best friend, and a future full of tail wags and purrs.
Here’s to Scruffy. Proof that every dog truly has its day. 🐾❤️

Evie’s Big Leap
From Euthanasia List to Forever Loved
Evie’s journey to happiness began in one of the toughest places a dog can be: on the euthanasia list at an overcrowded shelter in Robeson County. At just three years old, this intelligent and devoted pup was nearly out of time. But Saving Dogs for Betty’s Sake stepped in just in time, rescuing her and giving her the chance at life she so deserved.
Evie is a striking dog with sleek black fur, piercing blue eyes, and a quiet wisdom about her. She bonds deeply with one person and is incredibly loyal. At WoofStock, our mega adoption event held at Coastal Kia, Evie was one of the standouts. She caught the attention of many, but one family in particular was about to change her life forever.
A young girl, around 9 years old, spotted Evie and instantly fell in love. She tugged at her mom’s hand, pleading to meet “the pretty dog with the blue eyes.” Her mother hesitated at first, but when she met Evie face-to-face, she understood her daughter’s excitement. There was something special about this dog.
The connection was instant and mutual. Within moments, they made the decision: Evie was coming home. And Evie knew it too. Tail wagging and eyes shining, she jumped straight into their car as if to say, “Let’s go—I’ve been waiting for you.”
Now, Evie is living the life every rescue dog dreams of: a loving home, a best friend in a little girl who adores her, and a future full of love and adventure.
From nearly forgotten to forever loved, Evie’s story is why we do what we do. WoofStock gave her the stage, but Evie stole the show. 🐾💙

Henry's Homecoming
From Hopeless to Home
Henry (formerly Kip) was surrendered to the Bladen County Animal Shelter after his owner suffered a serious car accident and never returned for him. Recognizing his struggle, the shelter called in Hamilton’s Healing Hearts for help.
At the mega-adoption event WoofStock, Marcia and Frank Wolf met Kip and instantly fell in love, renaming him Henry and welcoming him into their home. Now he’s part of the family and proudly wears his Kansas City Chiefs jersey on game day.
Marcia and Frank say Henry is the perfect fit, and Henry knows he’s finally found the home and the family he’s been longing for. 🐾

Darla’s Story
Darla is a sweet Boxer mix whose family was struggling with the decision of whether they could afford to put food on the table for their family or put food in Darla’s bowl. They could not afford to feed her dog food, so they fed her peanut butter sandwiches.
A Social Worker on one of our partner programs noticed that Derla needed pet food. She contacted Heidi’s Hope for Homeless Animals’ Pet Food Bank, who immediately provided her with dog food; new dog bed; dog brushes; new collar and leash; dog bowls; toys; treats and much more! In addition, Heidi’s Hope will be providing ongoing pet food donations to Darla on a monthly basis!
“Thank you for creating this resource for the animals here in NHC. I had a family that was feeding their dog peanut butter sandwiches. I took a 20 lb bag of pedigree. This dog would benefit from 2- 20 pound bags a month. Her name is Darla and she’s a mix between a boxer and something else. Thanks again, I know that Darla is grateful, I am too.”
Darla is only one of the faces of pets your donation is helping to feed. Thanks to your generosity, Darla and pets like her will continue to receive the pet food and pet supplies they desperately need.
